The Green Coast Foundation's Management Team is dynamically suited to meet the organization's mission.
Douglas Buchalter, Executive Director Douglas brings over ten years of business and management experience to the Green Coast Foundation. Douglas has spent the last five years working at Marker Seven, a premier interactive agency headquartered in San Francisco. As founder and managing director, Douglas helped build Marker Seven into one of the Bay Area's leading creative agencies.
Douglas has actively worked with several environmental non-profits for the past fifteen years. Conservation International, he developed a business plan for a green kapok venture in Indonesia. He spent time conducting marine research in Northern Africa for Earthwatch. More recently he has developed a passion for renewable energy technologies, and wanted to develop additional expertise to be able to use his skills and experience in the high technology industry to enable the nascent market for Green energy systems. He decided to earn an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management. As part of his MBA studies, Doug earned a Certificate in Corporate Environmental Management from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara. In addition, Douglas holds a B.A. in History from the University of Virginia.
Mark Bierman, Development Director Mark is an Economist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1997 with degrees in Economics and Biochemistry, and earned a Master of Science in Economics and Finance from the Copenhagen Business School in 2002. During his graduate studies Mark interned with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, assisting the Division for Sustainable Development prepare Country Profiles and analyses for presentation at the 2002 World Summit in Johannesburg. Also while in graduate school, Mark had the opportunity to participate in a research project into sustainable forestry in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, in cooperation with the University of Natal's Department of Environment and Development. Mark has been an active member of several environmental non-profits over the last three years.
Myles Collins, Research Analyst Myles Collins is a PhD graduate student in Policy Analysis at the Pardee-RAND Graduate School in Santa Monica. He earned a Master of Public Policy degree from UCLA’s School of Public Affairs with a focus on energy and environmental policy and also a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University.
Myles began his career as an environmental consulting engineer for a private firm in Newport Beach, California, designing wastewater pretreatment systems. While at UCLA, he worked at the Southern California Gas Company's Energy Resource Center, where he developed a multimedia informational kiosk on building-integrated photovoltaics and spearheaded a green building certification program.
Scott Shriver, Research Analyst Scott Shriver is a PhD graduate student in the Quantitative Marketing program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. He recently earned his MBA at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. Scott earned an MS in Physics from Stanford, and a BA in Literature from the University of North Carolina.
Henry Wedaa, Green Coast Post Moderator Hank is a graduate of Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA, where he majored in physics and chemistry. In addition, he attended the Univ. of Arizona graduate school where he majored in physics. Having spent a lifetime in science and engineering as well as many years deeply involved in a variety of political organizations, he is well qualified to serve as moderator of the Green Coast Post.
He was a member of the Governing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) for seven years. He served as Board Chairman for the last three years and as Vice-Chairman during the preceding four years. He was involved in the 1989, 1991 and 1994 Air Quality Management Plans and participated in their evolvement with each succeeding plan. Upon leaving the Board, he was named Chairman Emeritus by his fellow Board Members.
Mr. Wedaa is also President of Valley Environmental Associates, an organization he started in 1970 that specializes in environmental studies, air quality issues, airport issues, intergovernmental relations, new technology business activities, etc. He previously was employed by Northrop Corporation, Martin Company in Orlando, Florida and Aerojet General Corporation. Prior to this, he was employed from 1950-58 at the U.S. Naval Weapons Center at China Lake, California as a rocket scientist/weapons system specialist.
Hank is well informed on methods of operating with political entities since he was elected to seven four year terms on the Yorba Linda City Council. In addition, he is a Past-President of Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), former Chairman of the North American Clean Air Alliance for zero emission vehicles, a co-founder of Fuel Cells for Transportation, Past President of the California Association of Councils of Government and many others. Currently, he serves as Vice-Chairman and Director of Hydrogen 2000, a non-profit Corporation dedicated to dispensing educational information regarding hydrogen as well as encouraging its use. He is also President of the California Hydrogen Business Council. He is a former member of the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen Technical Advisory Panel (HTAP) where he co-chaired the Strategic Planning Committee. He is a member of the National Hydrogen Association, a member of Fuel Cells 2000; as well as other related energy organizations.
In October 2003, the South Coast AQMD held their annual Clean Air Awards ceremonies. The purpose of these ceremonies is to "recognize the outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions toward improving the air we breathe here in southern California." At these ceremonies, Mr. Wedaa was honored with a Clean Air Award in the category of Leadership in Government.
